About Clancy's

Shh…
Can you keep a secret?

Clancy's Athy is one of County Kildare's best-known pubs, located in the heart of Athy town. A family-run establishment with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, Clancy's combines traditional Irish charm with modern comfort.

Only 150 yards from the Shackleton experience, the bar is renowned for its live music, friendly service, and vibrant community spirit — hosting Ireland's longest-running free traditional music session every Thursday since 1966.

Sports fans can catch all the big GAA, rugby, NFL and football matches on screen, while the venue also features a spacious beer garden, outdoor smoking area, and a cocktail bar for a relaxed evening out. Clancy's is also a popular choice for parties and private events, offering catering options and event support in a lively, authentic Irish pub setting.

Small town. Big ideas. Unforgettable moments.

Since 1966

60 Years of Irish Music in Clancy's — every Thursday night

For 60 years Clancy's has been home to Ireland's longest-running traditional music session. Back in 1966, Jim Clancy kicked out the dusty bags of maize from the grocer's storeroom and created something that would outlast everything: a room where music lives and breathes.

Fifteen to thirty musicians gather here — fiddles, bodhráns, flutes, mandolins, uilleann pipes, voices carrying stories. Everyone will tell you: this isn't just a session, it's family. It's ceol go leor in a dedicated snug where you don't compete with bar noise — just pure, unfiltered trad.

Music has always been at the heart of Clancy's. Our traditional Irish music sessions bring musicians and music lovers together for lively nights filled with reels, jigs and plenty of craic.

Visitors, locals and travelling musicians alike are always welcome to pull up a chair and enjoy the music. Whether you've been playing since you were five or picked up a tin whistle last Tuesday, you're welcome. All standards, all souls. We're Kildare's home of traditional music — one of Leinster's greatest music pubs, with tobacco-stained walls lined with songbook scores and decades of memories.
